Wayne's Trivia Note #1028

The sky over Twin Oaks Valley on night of 3 July 2026 had a spectacular display of color without any fireworks. This view is looking west after the sunset.

Wayne's Trivia Note #1029

Last night (4 July, 2026) while watching the 2001 movie "Pearl Harbor" I discovered steam train used briefly in film was Southern Pacific 2353 built in 1912. I photographed it many years ago after it was restored at Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo, CA. This old steam engine has a truly remarkable history in the United States..

Wayne's Trivia Note #1030

South American Palm Weevils with 3 inch wingspan have invaded my neighborhood in Twin Oaks Valley. They are attracted to pheromone scent lure packets at Wayne's Word developed By UC Riveride Entomology Dept. I cannot release them because they are devastating to species of date palms. They also like my sugar cane.

Trivia Note #1033: Wayne's Word Data For One Month

In 2016 when Wayne's Word was on Palomar Server I kept very accurate records of page views and awards. According to Google Analytical, Wayne's Word got over 122,000 pageviews per month. The top pages indicated that students from at least 10 countries were the most frequent visitors. I have no idea why my Horseshoe Puzzle page made #9 on the top 10 list! See following link for more details.

Wayne's Trivia Note #1034

Possible Killing Mechanism Of Terro Borax Ant Baits

Terro® borax-sugar ant bait is a very effective ant exterminator. It was discussed by Jonathan Hatch on the Internet: "How To Get Rid of Argentine Ants." When Terro® solution (Sodium Tetraborate Decahydrate) has been exposed to air in ant baits it becomes dehydrated & recrystallizes. The numerous sharp-edged crystals may damage (lacerate) the delicate cells lining the gut of ants.

Wayne's Trivia Note #1035

My neighbor's Canary Island date palm is infected by the larvae of South American palm weevil. In fact, it may be too late to save this beautiful large palm. The preserved larvae & pupae came from a palm at Palomar College. The winged adult was caught at Wayne's Word. This beetle is a serious problem in San Diego County.
