Life Sciences Department 50's Party (1)

Sara Thompson (left) and Carmen Eckman (right). Sara is a brilliant physiologist who knows more about this subject than her textbook. She is very fond of Necco® candy wafers and commonly carries them taped to her shirt. Carmen is the Life Sciences Academic Department Assistant. Without her outstanding organizational and computer skills, this department would surely collapse. © W.P. Armstrong 2003.

Bob Ebert (left), Wayne Armstrong (center) and Elaine Armstrong (right). Bob is a very popular biology professor and outdoorsman who has been runner-up for Palomar's Distinguished Faculty Award for decades. Wayne is also a biology/botany professor who publishes an annual trend graph on how unlikely it is for senior faculty to win this coveted award. Bob and Wayne retired from their full-time teaching positions last spring because they were both literally working for nothing. Although everyone thinks that Elaine and Wayne are brother and sister, they are actually husband and wife. Surprisingly enough, Wayne does not have an epicanthic fold in the corner of his eye. One additional anecdotal tidbit of information. Wayne is the only retired or deceased member of the Life Sciences Department with an unblemished record of never serving as Department Chairperson. © W.P. Armstrong 2003.

Left Photo: Dr. Candice Francis and Dr. Elizabeth Carpenter. Candi is very fond of Mickey Mouse and is a popular anatomy professor at Palomar College. With her administrative savvy and leadership skills, she would make an outstanding college president. Dr. Elizabeth Carpenter is a veterinarian and the wife of Dr. Carey Carpenter, the next Chairperson for the Life Sciences Department. Right Photo: Jim Gilardi, the distinguished 15th chairperson for the Life Sciences Department. Because of Jim's streamlining and computerization of this important faculty position, all the department members are eager to serve as chairperson. Jim's term of office is soon to expire, and Dr. Carpenter anxiously awaits his turn as our exalted leader. © W.P. Armstrong 2003.
