View from Henderson Canyn Road looking north toward Coyote Creek and Coyote Mountain. Most of the yellow flowers are desert sunflower (Gerarea canescens).

Most of the wildflowers in this image are desert sunflower (Gerarea canescens) and desert sand verbena (Abronia villosa var. villosa)

Ground mallow (Eremalche exilis). This small annual belongs to same genus as desert five-spot.

Dune Evening Primrose (Oenothera deltoides ssp. deltoides). This beautiful wildflower was being rapidly devoured by the following caterpillar!

Caterpillar of the white-lined sphinx moth (Hyles lineata). These large, hungry caterpillars reduced the dune primroses to bare stems. For more caterpillar images go to Part 2.
