The green carpet is a dense, homogeneous population of
Pectocarya recurvata
(Boraginaceae).
Pectocarya recurvata
: Each of the 4 one-seeded nutlets is conspicuously recurved (arched).

Steep walls of welded tuff (fused volcanic ash) above Canyon Lake are
covered with the crustose rock lichen (probably
Acarospora socialis
).
