Cuboidal brown rot. This important decay fungus converts fallen conifers into small lignified cubes. The dead trees literally melt away as their vital nuntrients are returned to the soil.


Cow Pie Mushrooms In The White Mtns

Some of the mushroom species found on cow pies (e.g. Psilocybe and Panaeolus) are hallucinogenic. I returned to identify these mushrooms, but they were already taken!

Foliose Lichen In The White Mtns, possibly in the genus Xanthoparmelia. They have conspicuous black apothecia.
