Part 10: Big-Headed Ant

Many naturalists come to this beautiful place to see the Elegant Trogon (Trogon elegans), truly one of the most spectacular birds in North America.

A note to viewers of this page: There are many landscape, plant & animal (mostly ant) images throughout the 10 parts. The Cave Creek Canyon image is on Part 1. Additional images from the Chiricahua, White & Superstition Mtns are on Parts 2 and 3. The train images (Part 4) were mostly taken around Holbrook, Arizona and the Painted Desert (Petrified Forest National Park). The big-headed ant (possibly Pheidole bicarinata) was especially interesting to me, so I dedicated a separate page (Part 10) to this species. Pheidole was the ant genus that fascinated me as a child.
